By any estimation, the publishing industry has always been a bit screwy. What other industry claims to have nearly no idea what customers want, makes most of their money off very few products (top authors), and pays their professionals so poorly?
Okay. Well. Probably several.
As for now... people are finding a better way, yeah? It's all good.
I'm sick of hearing about it. I'm sick of talking about it. I was SO GLAD when they started protesting on Wall Street. Even the writers got distracted by it.
I'm gonna say this once and for all, real slow, so even the math people get it.
There. Is. No. One. Right. Way. To. Be. An. Author.
There's no one-size-fits-all. There is no the future is now.
There are choices. Dozens and dozens of choices for writers and for publishers. My choice isn't right for everyone. Hell, it's probably not even right for you. But it's working for me. At the moment. I'm not one of those to agonize over every decision. But at the moment, I'm happy.
So I'm going to write and ignore any industry discussion.
I'd rather know, today, what you're working on writing-wise, than your thoughts on the industry. That would be way more inspiring to me than a dissertation on self-publishing and evil publishing corporation contracts.
So. I'm working on Battle Royal, the second installment in the Salt Road Saga. I'm also going to read what my crit group is working on, since I've got that tonight. Oh, and I might push the vaccuum since crit group is going to be here.

I agree. The publishing industry is at a point where even in traditional publishing the rules are changing and some of the biggest publishers are having to quick dance and ask their authors what to do next.... it's a time that a new author can really make a nice career on their own terms.
As for me and my writing... I am putting a short superhero story on hold for my crit group's upcoming anthology so I can write the 2nd e-novella set in the Deaconverse (the world of Deacon Chalk: Occult Bounty Hunter my series from Kensington). This morning I wrote the end scene of book 3 (BLOOD AND MAGICK)so now I just have to write the 80,000+ that come before it!
