gerard way of my chem |
Lately I've been listening to a lot of Mumford and Sons, and I listen to Story Records (my term) like Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys by My Chemical Romance (it's like a graphic novel constructed from music) or Green Day's American Idiot or even Sam's Town by the Killers. I love when music has theme and progression to it, and the bigger the story the better. My second book was called Taming the Tiger after a line from a Coldplay song (it's since been changed to Archive of Earth, but I'm dibs on that title; I have another story for it).
Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
Trouble that can't be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed
Shoot an apple off my head
Trouble that can't be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed
Lyrics affect and inspire my writing. I'm no poet and I appreciate what songwriters do.
There is even a forthcoming soundtrack for Archive of Fire and it'll be posted here.
Woot! Tunage! Do you tune?

A soundtrack for AOF? Are you kidding me? You r so cool.
I use music sometimes to help put me in eriting mode, but it has to be fantasy-ish. Enya or the LOTR soundtrack, or something classical.
It's mostly stuff Aidan listens to, and his tastes run to mine :)
I'm a huge fan of listening to music while I write, it helps keep me in the mood.
Sadly, that means that lately I've been listening to entirely too much Katy Perry, Pink, and other teen pop stars while I write my first YA. But it does help me keep my head in that space and not start writing from the mommy perspective.
And when I write the really gritty scenes, like today's planned scene, I get to listen to my Linkn Park station on Pandora, so it's not all torturous.
Linkin Park - LOVE THEM!
