learn me somethin

What do you need to learn, writing wise? Where's your weakness, your sour spot, your Achilles Heel of craft?

Mine's plotting. Damn is that shit hard.

What's yours?

And more importantly, what are you gonna do about it?

My achilles heel is fight scenes and battles. I hate them. I haven't done enough research and don't know how to even start.

You have no problem plotting, woman.

Noooo, I suuuuuuck! It's so harrrrrd.

You're the one with no problem. Sheesh. You always think of the perfect awful thing to throw at them.

On the threads, sure. I'm squeamish when it comes to the real books. I don't want to hurt my babies.

You are just so evil to the twins!

Mainly, I think I'm afraid of what my family will think if I actually write what I want to.

Yeah, well, you have to let that go right now. You've seen the quote at the bottom of my emails. Your stuff on the threads, assuming you're writing what you want, is brilliant.

Aw. Thanks. I didn't start coming up with that kind of stuff until we started the threads. It's been a very freeing exercise. I meed to figure out how to get some of that into the book.

Actually, my achilles heel is describing things in limited pov. I end up using "as if" or "it seemed" a whole lot.

To avoid that you have to get absolutely in character, which you also do well on the threads.
